Hello and Happy Tuesday!
The last you heard from me about the autoimmune protocol (AIP) was that I was on Day 10. I was feeling blah, right? That was just the beginning. I went through full on DETOX!!! It was awful. I thought it was the flu, but alas, it was not. I had chills, body aches, fever, etc. Detox is no joke! Here is a pretty good article about what was going on in my system during this time:
After detox, I was on the road to “recovery.” Recovery from what, you ask? By removing processed foods, gluten, nightshades, dairy, basically anything DELICIOUS, I am reprogramming my system in a way. I am removing anything that my system may be sensitive to. I am removing anything that could be harming me without my knowledge. See, autoimmune (AI) diseases are sneaky. AIs make you think you’re crazy or getting old or just don’t have enough energy to do the things you used to do. You know something is wrong, but you don’t know what. Sneaky, I tell you.
Some positive things that have happened with AIP? I no longer have hot flashes. I don’t get heartburn anymore. My energy levels are improving. The numbness in my right hand has lessened. I’ve lot some weight. All in all, I feel good!
Since I’ve managed to do AIP for 8 full weeks with minimal mishaps, I technically can start reintroducing some foods. I’m kind of scared to reintroduce though. I accidentally glutened myself during Week 7 and got sick. Plus, my daughter is home this week, and I don’t want to risk being ill while she is here. Reintroductions will have to wait!
I’m looking forward to reintroducing rice and alcohol – LOL! I truly miss rice. Hell, I miss BREAD! I’m going to figure how to make flatbread from yuca.
Anyway, AIP is not all bad. Yes, I miss some things. I miss a lot of things. Ordering pizza is one of those things. It’s not like I can’t have pizza, I just have to figure out how to make it from scratch with the limitations. However, if I haven’t successfully reintroduced tomatoes or cheese, then would I really be making pizza?
I promise to write more about my adventures and include favorite recipes and pictures too! Until we meeting again…..
